Header and announcement bar

The top of every page is the header area. By default it holds two sections: Announcement bar and Header. You can also add other sections to this area, such as Scrolling text, Apps or Custom Liquid.

To edit them, open the theme editor and select the section in the Header area at the top of the sidebar.

Announcement bar

A thin bar above the header for short messages, such as a shipping offer or a launch. With more than one announcement, customers can use arrows to move between them.

Settings

  • Color scheme: the colors of the bar.
  • Rotate announcements automatically: moves to the next announcement on its own.
  • Change announcements every: how long each announcement shows, from 3 to 10 seconds.

Under Utilities:

  • Show social media icons: shows your social media icons on the left of the bar. Add your accounts in theme settings.
  • Show country/region selector: lets customers choose their country and currency. To add a country/region, go to your markets settings.
  • Show language selector: lets customers choose a language. To add a language, go to your language settings.

Utilities show on desktop only. On phones, the selectors are in the mobile menu. See the Mobile menu settings of the Header below. The selectors appear only when your store has more than one country or language.

Blocks

Announcement (up to 6):

  • Text: the message. Keep it short so it fits on one line on phones.
  • Link: makes the message a link, for example to a collection or your shipping policy.
  • Icon: an icon before the text: None, Truck, Gift, Sparkle, Discount tag, Shield, Leaf or Return arrow.

Tip: to hide the bar for a while, select the eye icon next to Announcement bar in the sidebar.

The header shows your logo, main menu, search, account icon and cart. Your logo is set in Theme settings > Logo and favicon.

Settings

  • Color scheme: the colors of the header, its drop-down menus, the mobile menu and the search window.
  • Main menu: the menu shown in the header. Create menus in your Shopify admin under Content > Menus.
  • Desktop layout:
    • Logo left: logo on the left, menu next to it. If Search is set to Search bar, the menu moves to a row below the logo.
    • Logo center, menu below: logo in the middle, menu in a row below.
    • Menu left, logo center: menu on the left, logo in the middle.
  • Search: Search bar shows a search field in the header on desktop. Icon shows a search icon that opens a search window. Hide removes search from the header. On phones, the search bar and the icon both show as an icon.
  • Sticky header: None scrolls the header away with the page. Always keeps it at the top. On scroll up hides it as customers scroll down and shows it again when they scroll up.
  • Show bottom border: adds a thin line under the header.

Under Account:

  • Show account icon: shows the account icon. It appears only when customer accounts are turned on in Settings > Customer accounts.
  • Customer account menu: the menu customers see when they open the account icon while signed in.

Under Mobile menu:

  • Show country/region selector: shows the country/region selector at the bottom of the mobile menu.
  • Show language selector: shows the language selector at the bottom of the mobile menu.

Unoque supports menus up to three levels deep:

  • Top-level items show in the header.
  • Second-level items show in a drop-down when customers open a top-level item.
  • Third-level items show under their second-level item.

On phones, the menu opens in a panel from the side. Customers tap an item with a submenu to open it, and tap Back to return.

Blocks

Mega menu: turns one top-level menu item's drop-down into a full-width panel on desktop. The panel shows second-level items as column headings, third-level items as links below them, and up to two promotion images.

  • Menu item: enter the name of a top-level menu item, as it's written in your menu. Capital letters don't need to match. Its submenu is shown as a mega menu with the content below.
  • Under Promotion: Image (4:3 aspect ratio recommended), Heading, Text and Link.
  • Under Second promotion: Image, Heading, Text and Link.

If you leave a promotion Link empty, the promotion links to the menu item's own link.

Highlighted menu item: shows one top-level menu item in the accent color, for example "Sale" or "New".

  • Menu item: enter the name of a top-level menu item to display it in the accent color. Capital letters don't need to match.

Mobile menu promotion (up to 2): an image with a heading at the bottom of the mobile menu.

  • Image: 4:3 aspect ratio recommended.
  • Heading: the text under the image.
  • Link: where the promotion goes.

Set up a mega menu

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Content > Menus and edit your main menu.
  2. Under a top-level item, for example "Skin care", add second-level items such as "By concern" and "By product type".
  3. Under each second-level item, add third-level items, such as "Acne" and "Dryness".
  4. In the theme editor, select the Header section, then select Add block > Mega menu.
  5. In Menu item, type "Skin care" as it's written in your menu.
  6. Optional: add promotion images, headings and links.
  7. Select Save.

Tips:

  • The Menu item text must match the menu item name. Capital letters and spaces at the start or end don't matter, so "skin care" matches "Skin care".
  • If you translate your menu into other languages, translate the Menu item text in the block too, so they still match.
  • A mega menu only works for a top-level item that has a submenu.
  • Mega menus show on desktop. On phones, the same menu items show in the side panel.
