Collection and search pages
Collection pages
To edit collection pages, open the theme editor and choose Collections > Default collection from the page selector. By default, the page has three sections:
- Collection banner: the collection title, description and image.
- Product grid: the products, with filters, sorting and pagination.
- Multicolumn: a compact row of shipping and returns promises.
Collection banner
- Show breadcrumbs: shows links above the title, such as Home > Collections > Skin care.
- Show collection description: shows the description you wrote for the collection in your Shopify admin.
- Show collection image: shows the collection image, if the collection has one.
- Layout: Text beside image or Centered.
- Image ratio: Landscape, Wide or Square.
- Color scheme, Top padding and Bottom padding.
You can add this section to collection pages only.
Product grid
- Products per page: from 8 to 48. More products load on the next page.
- Number of columns on desktop: from 2 to 5. Tablets show three columns.
- Number of columns on mobile: 1 column or 2 columns.
Under Filtering and sorting:
- Enable filtering: shows filters. Customize filters with the Search & Discovery app.
- Desktop filter layout: Sidebar shows filters beside the products. Drawer hides them behind a Filter and sort button. On phones, filters always open in a drawer.
- Show product counts in filters: shows how many products match each filter value.
- Enable sorting: lets customers sort products, for example by price or by date.
The product cards follow your Product cards theme settings.
Filters
Filters let customers narrow a collection, for example by product type, price, availability or skin type. Unoque updates the products without reloading the page.
To set up filters:
- Install the Shopify Search & Discovery app.
- In the app, open Filters and add the filters you want, such as Availability, Price, Product type or a product metafield.
- In the theme editor, make sure Enable filtering is on in the Product grid section.
Tips:
- Filters with a swatch display in Search & Discovery show as color swatches.
- The first three filter groups open by default. Put your most useful filters first.
- If you add a Tag filter, customers see your tags as written, including prefixes such as "benefit:". To filter by concern, a metafield filter is usually easier to read.
- Active filters show above the products, each with a button to remove it, plus Clear all.
Sorting
Customers can sort by the options Shopify provides: featured, best selling, alphabetical, price and date. The collection's default sort order is set in your Shopify admin under Products > Collections.
On desktop, the sort menu is above the products. On phones, sorting is inside the Filter and sort drawer. When filtering is off, the button on phones says Sort and opens the sort options only.
Promotion tiles
You can place up to three promotion tiles between the products, for example to highlight an offer or a related collection. Add a Promotion tile block to the Product grid section. It's inserted into the grid after the chosen product position.
- Position: from 1 to 24. The tile appears after this many products.
- Width: One column or Two columns.
- Image: the tile background.
- Subheading, Heading and Link label: the text on the tile. The link label shows when the tile has a link.
- Link: where the tile goes. Without a link, the tile shows its image and text but isn't clickable.
Tips:
- The tile appears at the same position on every page of the collection.
- If a page has fewer products than the Position, the tile doesn't show on that page.
- Tiles show on every collection that uses this template. To show a tile on one collection only, create a separate collection template for it.
Collections list page
The page at /collections lists all your collections. Choose Collections list from the page selector to edit it.
- Heading: the page heading.
- Collections per page: from 4 to 48.
- Number of columns on desktop: from 2 to 5.
- Card style: Title below image, Title over image or Circle.
- Image ratio: Square, Portrait or Landscape.
- Show product count: shows the number of products under each title.
- Color scheme, Top padding and Bottom padding.
Search
Predictive search
As customers type in the search field, a panel shows matching products, collections, pages, blog posts and suggested search terms. Predictive search also looks at product types, vendors, variant names and tags, so tags such as "benefit:Reduces hair fall" help customers find products.
Turn it on or off, and choose whether to show the vendor and price, in Theme settings > Search. When it's off, the search field takes customers straight to the search results page.
Where the search field appears depends on the Search setting in the Header section. See Header and announcement bar.
Tip: the search field's placeholder text, "Search for products, ingredients, or concerns", can be changed in Edit default theme content. See the FAQ.
Search results page
The search results page shows products, blog posts and pages that match the search. Choose Search from the page selector to edit it.
- Results per page: from 8 to 48.
- Number of columns on desktop: from 2 to 5.
- Enable filtering: shows filters for products in the results.
- Desktop filter layout: Sidebar or Drawer.
- Enable sorting: lets customers sort the results.
- Color scheme, Top padding and Bottom padding.
Tip: to improve search results, add synonyms and product boosts in the Search & Discovery app.
