Getting started
This guide takes you from installing Unoque to a store that's ready to publish. Follow the steps in order. Each step links to a page with more detail.
Install the theme
- In the Shopify Theme Store, open the Unoque page.
- Select Try theme. Shopify adds Unoque to your theme library in Online Store > Themes. You can customize it before you buy it.
- When you're ready, buy the theme from your theme library, then publish it.
Unoque comes with one style, also called Unoque. It uses a calm, light color palette that you can change in theme settings.
Make a copy before big changes
A copy lets you go back if something doesn't look right.
- Go to Online Store > Themes.
- Next to Unoque, select the ... button.
- Select Duplicate.
Shopify adds a copy named "Copy of Unoque" to your theme library. Make a copy before you change a lot of settings at once, before you install an app that edits your theme, and always before you edit theme code.
Open the theme editor
- Go to Online Store > Themes.
- Next to Unoque, select Customize.
The theme editor has three main parts:
- Sections: the left sidebar lists the sections on the page you're viewing. Select a section to change its settings, or select Add section to add a new one.
- Theme settings: the gear icon opens settings that apply to the whole store, such as colors and fonts.
- Page selector: the menu at the top of the editor switches between page types, such as the home page, a product page or the cart.
Select Save to keep your changes. Changes don't appear on your live store until you save, and until the theme is published.
Set up your store in this order
1. Add your logo
Go to Theme settings > Logo and favicon. Upload your Logo and set Desktop logo width and Mobile logo width. Add a Favicon, the small icon shown in browser tabs. A 48 x 48px .png works well.
If you don't add a logo, the header shows your store name as text.
2. Choose your colors
Go to Theme settings > Colors. Unoque has five color schemes. Each section has a Color scheme setting that picks one of them. Change the colors in a scheme, and every section that uses it updates.
Read more in Colors.
3. Choose your fonts
Go to Theme settings > Typography. Pick a Font for headings and a Font for body text. Use Size scale to make text bigger or smaller.
4. Set up your header menu
- In your Shopify admin, create or edit your main menu (Content > Menus). Add nested items to create drop-down menus.
- In the theme editor, select the Header section and choose your menu in Main menu.
- To show a large drop-down with promotion images, add a Mega menu block. See Header and announcement bar.
5. Build your home page
The home page starts with example sections that show what Unoque can do. Each section has text that explains how to use it. Work through them from top to bottom:
- Replace the example text and add your own images.
- Choose collections in sections such as Collection list, Featured collection and Collection tabs.
- Remove sections you don't need. Select the section, then select Remove section.
- To hide a section without removing it, select the eye icon next to its name.
6. Set up your product page
From the page selector, choose Products > Default product. The Product information section holds the product title, price, variant picker, buy buttons and other blocks. Reorder or remove blocks to suit your products.
The product page also has sections for ingredients, questions and recommendations. To show different content on each product, connect metafields. See Product page and Product tags and metafields.
7. Set up your collection pages
From the page selector, choose Collections > Default collection. Turn filters and sorting on or off in the Product grid section. To set up filters, use the Shopify Search & Discovery app. See Collection and search pages.
8. Set up your footer
Select the Footer section. Choose menus for the Menu blocks, add your brand text, and check the Email signup block. See Footer.
9. Check the cart and other pages
- Go to Theme settings > Cart to choose a drawer or a page, and to set the free shipping bar. See Cart.
- The cart page, the blog post page and the 404 page each include a Featured collection section. Choose a collection for each one, or remove the section. Until you choose a collection, these sections show example products in the theme editor and stay hidden on your live store.
10. Preview and publish
- In the theme editor, use the device icon at the top to preview your store on a phone and on a desktop.
- Place a test order to check the cart and checkout.
- Go to Online Store > Themes, select the ... button next to Unoque, and select Publish.
